On the occasion of World Sustainable Tourism Day, RespectOcean, a non-profit association under the French law of 1901, announces the publication of its ”\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/small>Manifesto for committed, sustainable and respectful tourism practices for marine biodiversity\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/small>“. This manifesto marks a strong and collective commitment of the tourism stakeholders who take part in the working group, towards the preservation of the ocean and their ecosystems.<\/span><\/p>\n

Preserving marine biodiversity: a crucial issue<\/span><\/h2>\n

RespectOcean brings together various tourism stakeholders around a common goal: the preservation of the ocean. By recognizing their interdependencies with the ocean and the externalities of their activities, these stakeholders are mobilizing to implement concrete measures to protect these fragile ecosystems. This manifesto is the result of this collaboration, and it reflects a common desire to protect marine biodiversity for future generations.<\/p>\n

The 10 commitments for sustainable tourism<\/span><\/h2>\n

The manifesto sets out ten key points that the signatory organisations commit to implementing by 2030:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Commit and take responsibility: Adopt ambitious and transparent sustainable development policies.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Reduce our ecological footprint: Minimize energy and resource consumption, reduce waste and ban single-use plastics.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Support sustainable agriculture, fishing and aquaculture practices: Promote local and sustainable products.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Promoting responsible tourism activities: Minimizing negative impacts on marine biodiversity.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Respect the marine ecosystem in nautical activities: Navigate responsibly and respect marine protected areas.<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Support research and protection of marine and coastal ecosystems: Contribute to research and conservation programs.<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Encourage education and training: Raise awareness among young people and train tourism professionals.<\/span><\/li>\n
  8. Promoting more sustainable tourism: Working with responsible partners and supporting sustainable tourism labels.<\/span><\/li>\n
  9. Cooperate and collaborate: Work with local communities and share good practices.<\/span><\/li>\n
  10. Raise awareness and inform customers and partners: Educate tourists on the importance of marine biodiversity.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    A collective commitment for a lasting impact<\/span><\/h2>\n

    The manifesto was developed by a working group of diverse members of the tourism community, including hotels, travel agencies, cruise lines, consultancies and environmental NGOs. Key members of the working group include South Pacific Management.<\/p>\n
